Panjamuga Anjaneyar Idol – Panchamukha Hanuman Statue | 2.75"H x 3"W x 1.25"D
Panjamuga Anjaneyar, also known as Panchamukha Anjaneya or Panchamukhi Hanuman, is the five-faced form of Lord Hanuman. The word panja refers to five in Tamil usage, while mukha means face. This form combines Hanuman's face with four other divine faces: Narasimha, Garuda, Varaha and Hayagriva.
The five-faced form is associated in later Hindu devotional narratives with Hanuman's mission to rescue Lord Rama and Lakshmana from Ahiravana in Patala. In one well-known version of this story, Hanuman assumes five faces to extinguish five lamps simultaneously. Versions of this narrative vary across regional traditions.
